A wave of success swept through the Maco Federation Council of Women Incorporated as the group proudly harvested 3,800 kilograms of bangus (milkfish) valued at ₱577,000 on October 11, 2025.

Composed of 1,124 members, the federation marked the completion of its first cropping cycle under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region XI’s Fishcage Livelihood Program.

To support the project’s initial implementation, BFAR XI provided 10,000 pieces of bangus fingerlings and feeds assistance, ensuring the group’s production and sustainability.

According to the federation, 70 kilograms of the harvest were processed into boneless bangus, while the remaining proceeds will be reinvested into the next cropping cycle and added to the group’s savings to sustain livelihood opportunities for its members.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between BFAR XI, through its Provincial Fisheries Office of Davao de Oro and Fisheries Production Support Services Division, and the Local Government Unit of Maco.

This milestone highlights how government-community partnerships can drive both economic growth and women’s empowerment in the fisheries sector. Through continuous support and collective determination, the women of Maco are proving that sustainable fisheries can uplift local livelihoods and strengthen community resilience.
